Data Science Manager

Overview

In this role you lead Wayve’s Applied Methods Data Science team within the Autonomy group to turn driving data into evaluations and insights that accelerate engineering progress. You shape the team’s direction, grow capabilities, and strengthen partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders. You’ll balance customer needs with statistical rigour, manage delivery roadmaps, and scale the function through hiring and tooling. This role offers ownership in advancing AV2.0 and building the end-to-end AI platform for autonomous mobility.

Responsibilities

• Set and align 3-, 6-, and 12-month roadmaps with Autonomy stakeholders balancing demand and capacity
• Review technical proposals and designs with leads to maintain high statistical rigour and evaluation fidelity
• Monitor delivery cadence, surface risks early, and manage trade-offs with customers
• Grow the team through hiring and onboarding data scientists and invest in tooling/automation for scale
• Guide career growth and create progression paths aligning business needs with development opportunities
• Build cross-functional relationships to stay close to customers and anticipate support needs

Key requirements

• Three or more years of experience managing a team of five or more individual contributors
• Track record of growing and maintaining high-performing teams
• Strong data science foundation with experience applying causal-inference methods in experimental or observational settings
• Proven ability to translate stakeholder needs into clear team priorities
• Experience setting technical direction and reviewing designs/proposals from senior engineers
• Experience planning roadmaps and managing delivery with demanding customers
• Comfort with asynchronous work across time zones and cross-functional partners
• Curiosity about creating something new and shaping AV2.0 at Wayve
• Bonus: experience building/scaling applied or embedded data science functions; simulation/offline evaluation; practical ML (e.g., PyTorch); productionizing research; experience with large datasets and distributed computing (Spark/Hadoop)
