Cloud Platform Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design, build and operate secure, scalable cloud and on‑prem infrastructure to boost development team productivity. You’ll implement automated pipelines and governance to accelerate daily deployments, while ensuring reliability, security and performance. You will collaborate with architects, release management and cross‑functional teams to enable rapid delivery at scale in Azure and hybrid environments. This role offers hands‑on influence over cloud native platforms and CI/CD practices that support Howdens’ growth and transformation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy scalable cloud/on‑prem solutions for dev, test and prod environments
• Automate infrastructure and workflows; implement backup, DR, security and performance monitoring
• Deploy and maintain CI/CD pipelines across environments to accelerate daily code delivery
• Develop policies, standards and governance for CI/CD usage across teams
• Collaborate with architects to design scalable infrastructure for complex applications
• Coordinate release activities with Release Manager and plan deployment steps
• Develop and support containerized solutions using Kubernetes/Docker on Azure
• Ensure secure, high‑availability, fault‑tolerant systems at scale

Key requirements

• 5+ years experience in Azure Cloud
• Proficiency in IaC with Terraform
• Build and management of Kubernetes environments
• Azure DevOps or other CI/CD/Git platforms
• Cloud security and connectivity (Key Vault, vNet, DNS, Firewalls, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect, VPN, GTM, NSG)
• Infrastructure‑as‑code and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform)
• Practical experience with Docker/Kubernetes containerization
• Building automated CI/CD pipelines with SonarQube, Fortify, Selenium
• Excellent communicator with ability to influence in cross‑functional teams
