Commercial Motor Underwriting Manager

Overview

In this role you steer growth and profitability for Allianz Commercial’s Motor portfolio. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to sharpen underwriting capability and pricing strategy, while shaping product development and governance. You’ll lead technical underwriting excellence and risk management, maintaining high standards across Mid‑Market and Digital portfolios. This position offers hybrid work, leadership scope, and visibility across a major insurance line with global backing.

Responsibilities

• drive growth and profitability in line with portfolio objectives
• develop products and support underwriter development
• lead thought leadership and support regional offices
• enhance technical underwriting and analytical capabilities
• apply risk management offerings and techniques
• maintain underwriting standards
• set targets and development plans to grow profitable accounts
• collaborate with Senior/Principal Underwriters to raise capability
• support underwriting governance and audit activities across Mid‑Market and Digital portfolios

Key requirements

• strong commercial background with outstanding Commercial Motor underwriting ability
• deep knowledge of the Commercial Motor market
• proven leadership and account management skills
• strong negotiating/influencing and communication skills
• excellent presentation and numerical/analytical ability
• experience underwriting Motor Fleet and in a general insurer with portfolio P&L responsibility
• supervisory/management experience and delivery against objectives
• understanding of underwriting concepts; ACII or equivalent preferable
• responsible AI usage
