Senior Civil Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will deliver civil and structural designs for UK Power Networks projects, ensuring code-compliant, CDM-aligned solutions. You will collaborate with project managers, electrical designers and design coordinators, supporting procurement and design assurance. You drive safe, buildable designs that meet time, cost and quality targets while mentoring junior engineers. The opportunity combines office design work with site exposure, contributing to critical network projects and customer connections.

Responsibilities

• Produce civil and structural designs compliant with codes, CDM 2015 and industry standards
• Oversee production of technical, commercial and contractual procurement documents
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary design with electrical and other teams
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and company procedures
• Mentor trainee/graduate engineers to develop their capability
• Assist with design coordination and information provision for clients and contractors
• Manage CAD/ drawing production with the CAD team to produce construction-ready designs
• Support design assurance and audit processes and act as Principal Designer for allocated schemes
• Provide excellent customer service and collaborate with operational teams throughout project lifecycle

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree with relevant Substation, OHL and Cable experience
• Civil/structural engineering background in Utilities sector
• Proven ability to resolve civil engineering issues and apply company policies
• Knowledge of AutoCAD; Bentley software beneficial
• Strong safety culture and understanding of CDM 2015 and IOSH training
• Ability to work unsupervised and identify cost-saving solutions
• Experience approving designs
• Desirable: Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000/ISO 14001 and Microsoft Office tools; planning permissions; site surveying and building services experience
