You see the world through a unique lens and that’s exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently – it’s essential for creating a sustainable future.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates and students who help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

The Opportunity

Our Cardiff-based Water Civil Structures team is a rapidly growing group of engineers delivering a diverse range of projects that have a direct impact on the environment and communities. We work on multidisciplinary projects from concept and feasibility studies through to detailed design, construction support, and the management of existing assets. Our work includes the design of new structures as well as the inspection, assessment, repair, and modification of existing infrastructure.

Projects range from coastal and river flood defences, weirs, sluices, and fish passes, through to structures within wastewater treatment works that help improve water quality in our rivers. We provide opportunities to develop a broad range of technical, project delivery, and collaborative skills while contributing to meaningful real-world outcomes.

Typical day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Carrying out assessment, analysis, and design, preparing design reports, sketches, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Collaborating with Arup colleagues in other disciplines, such as working with landscape architects, environmental and ecological specialists, geotechnical, geomorphologists and more.
  • Meeting with clients, national agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders, including site visits.
  • Specifying and analysing survey information and constraints for solution development.
  • Developing and appraising options, feasibility studies and supporting the production of engineering solutions.
