Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer – Vice President

Overview

In this role you will build production-grade AI agents and robust execution pipelines that connect to enterprise systems. You’ll work closely with business and tech teams to translate complex requirements into reliable AI solutions, driving testing and continuous improvement. The position sits at the frontier of AI engineering, delivering scalable, secure workflows that go beyond chat to multi-step reasoning and action. You’ll contribute to reusable tooling and best practices that accelerate AI adoption across Citi.

Responsibilities

• Develop production-quality agent reasoning logic and memory management in Python
• Create MCP servers to connect AI agents with enterprise systems (ServiceNow, JIRA, DBaaS, Kafka, internal REST/gRPC services)
• Implement resilient error handling, retries, fallbacks, and HITL escalation triggers
• Integrate Lakera Guardrails for prompt-injection defense, jailbreak mitigation, and PII filtering/redaction
• Collaborate with C12 engineers to build regression testbeds and deploy Agentflow Studio evaluation harnesses
• Mentor junior developers, participate in sprint delivery and code reviews
• Assess risk and ensure compliance with laws and Citigroup policies while safeguarding assets

Key requirements

• Strong software engineering experience with Python
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (R2D2 Gateway, OpenAI, Google Vertex AI) and integrating foundation models into backend services
• Experience with REST/gRPC APIs, Docker, Git, Linux, and CI/CD automation
• Understanding of prompt engineering, JSON output validation (e.g., Pydantic), and vector search/retrieval patterns
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced agile squads solving ambiguous technical problems
