Job Description:

Software Engineer in Test (Playwright / TypeScript):

  • Remote (UK-based, occasional London office visits)

Company and role for Software Engineer in Test (Playwright / TypeScript):

I’m working with a world-leading news and media organisation that reaches nearly half of the UK’s adult population across some of the country’s best-known brands, with well over 100 million consumer touch points a month.

They’re hiring a Software Engineer in Test to work on group-wide e-commerce projects across multiple brands and products. It’s a hands-on SDET role. You’ll build frameworks from scratch as well as maintain them, and the team is small and collaborative enough that your input shapes how quality is done across the business.

What you’ll be doing as Software Engineer in Test (Playwright / TypeScript):

  • Building automation frameworks from scratch for regression testing, and maintaining existing suites.
  • Working with Project Managers and QA to turn repetitive manual tasks into reusable automated solutions.
  • Partnering with DevOps to take solutions from development through to deployment.
  • Running automated and manual test scenarios across new and ongoing projects.
  • Building RTM mapping for automation scripts and tracking defects through to closure.
  • Pairing with other testers and clearly communicating progress, risks and issues.

Experience you’ll bring for Software Engineer in Test (Playwright / TypeScript):

  • 5+ years’ hands‑on experience as an SDET / Software Engineer in Test.
  • Playwright, WebdriverIO, Cucumber (BDD) and Appium.
  • CI/CD experience with Jenkins and GitHub Actions, plus Git.
  • A track record of designing and building test frameworks, not just maintaining them.
  • Experience testing high-volume, high-transaction applications, including data security.
  • Agile testing experience and comfort with JIRA and test management tools.
  • Working knowledge of JMeter, visual regression testing and Docker.

Why it’s worth a look

  • Remote working, with work that runs across multiple national consumer brands
  • E-commerce at real scale, where quality has a direct commercial impact
  • Room to build experience and take on broader responsibility over time

Please note:

his role is remote, but you’ll need to be based in the UK with the existing right to work here, as sponsorship isn’t available. Very occasional travel to the London office is required.

If you’re an SDET who likes building things properly from the ground up, would you be open to a quick chat?
