W&P Partners is partnering with a fast-growing technology business that works with clients across a range of regulated sectors. It is looking for a Regulatory Counsel to join its Regulatory Compliance team.
This is an exciting time to join. The business is expanding into international markets for the first time, including the US, Europe and emerging markets. You will play a central part in understanding and managing the regulatory landscape as it grows.
The role
Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Compliance, you will be the qualified legal voice within the team. You will turn complex regulation into clear, practical and commercial advice for the business. This is a broad, generalist role. It suits a lawyer who enjoys variety and wants real ownership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the internal lead on regulatory obligations across a range of UK regulators, such as the FCA, CQC, Ofsted and SRA
- Advising on sector-specific requirements, including SM&CR and fitness and propriety
- Supporting on GDPR and data protection matters, as well as EU and US regulatory frameworks as the business expands internationally
- Acting as the main point of contact for instructing and managing external counsel overseas and fractional regulatory specialists
- Handling escalated regulatory queries from the commercial teams, joining client calls where legal input is needed, and contributing to tenders and RFPs
- Reviewing new products and features from a regulatory perspective, and helping translate new legislation into product requirements
- Owning and developing the horizon-scanning process from day one, using technology to build a robust and scalable approach across the UK, EU, US and APAC
- Producing internal guidance and training so that commercial teams become more self-sufficient
About you
- A qualified solicitor or barrister with broad regulatory experience, gained in-house, in private practice or at a regulator
- An FCA or financial services regulatory background is highly desirable
- Strong GDPR and data protection knowledge
- Exposure to other regulated sectors, such as healthcare, education or the public sector, would be valuable
- Commercially minded and pragmatic, giving clear, defensible advice rather than long lists of caveats
- Confident working with Product, Commercial and Legal colleagues, and comfortable managing external counsel

That includes leading the horizon-scanning function and using technology to build it into a scalable system, managing external counsel overseas, and sitting on a small international regulatory working group alongside senior leadership. You will work across a diverse range of regulated sectors, with real exposure to Product, Commercial and clients.
