Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role you will help lead a cloud-first modernization of ageing systems by building a greenfield AWS environment and migrating legacy applications. You will work with cross-functional stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable cloud solutions, while ensuring secure, resilient and compliant platforms. The position focuses on delivering operational excellence through automation, monitoring and performance optimisation. It offers involvement in a transformative program with a flexible, contract-based setup and regular planning sessions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and understand legacy systems and infrastructure
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define future-state requirements and translate into cloud solutions
• Design and build infrastructure in a greenfield AWS environment
• Support migration of legacy applications to cloud-native services
• Define infrastructure architecture, standards and operational approaches
• Build and support data platforms, web apps, mapping and GIS tools, and microservices platforms
• Implement Infrastructure as Code and automation where appropriate
• Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, scalable and compliant with security requirements
• Identify technical challenges and develop mitigation strategies
• Drive operational excellence through monitoring, automation and performance optimisation

Key requirements

• Strong background in Systems Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps
• Hands-on experience designing and building AWS infrastructure and cloud-native solutions
• Experience modernising or migrating legacy systems to cloud environments
• Solid understanding of microservices architectures and distributed systems
• Knowledge of infrastructure security, governance and compliance
• Familiarity with automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code practises
• Ability to engage with technical and business stakeholders to gather and define requirements
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale platforms and applications
