Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design across projects from concept to delivery. You will take overall technical responsibility and guide a cross-discipline team, coordinating with clients, architects and contractors. You will develop calculations, specifications, drawings and technical documentation, while mentoring junior engineers. This role offers influence over project direction, technical standards and team development within an established consultancy active across healthcare, education, commercial and residential sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion
• Take overall technical responsibility for electrical engineering elements of projects
• Manage and coordinate electrical design teams and work with other disciplines
• Develop and review calculations, specifications, drawings and technical documentation
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to intermediate and junior engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, architects and other stakeholders
• Attend design meetings, site visits and project reviews
• Review designs to ensure compliance with standards and client requirements
• Support project planning, resourcing and delivery
• Contribute to development of the electrical engineering team and wider business
• Identify opportunities to improve technical standards, processes and project delivery

Key requirements

• Significant professional experience in electrical building services engineering
• Strong consultancy experience with a proven track record of delivering projects
• Extensive knowledge of electrical building services design and UK standards
• Experience taking technical ownership of projects
• Strong client-facing and communication skills
• Experience mentoring and developing junior and intermediate engineers
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery
• Strong AutoCAD skills; Revit/BIM experience would be advantageous
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Proactive approach and confidence to make technical decisions and provide direction
