Technical Business Analyst (Data & BI)

Overview

In this role you will drive data and reporting transformation for a leading higher education institution in Birmingham. You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts and IT teams to translate business needs into technical requirements for data and analytics solutions. You will support Power BI-based reporting, data models and UAT, helping to modernise legacy reporting and promote adoption across the organisation. Responsibilities

• Lead requirements gathering workshops with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data, reporting and analytics solutions
• Analyze existing reporting and processes to identify improvements or consolidation of legacy solutions
• Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure requirements are reflected in solutions
• Support the design and implementation of data models and Power BI semantic models
• Produce process maps, data models, data lineage and technical documentation
• Support User Acceptance Testing and define acceptance criteria
• Drive adoption of new reporting and analytics capabilities across the organisation

Key requirements

• Strong experience in business analysis, requirements gathering and process mapping
• Experience delivering Kimball-style semantic/data models (facts and dimensions)
• Strong understanding of data architecture and data modelling
• Experience using SQL to interrogate relational or cloud data
• Experience with BI and data visualisation, ideally Power BI
• Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear business language
• Strong stakeholder management, including with senior stakeholders and technical teams
• Understanding of data quality, governance and GDPR
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Azure, Power BI semantic models, Agile delivery or higher education sector is advantageous
