Head of Financial Modelling – Clean Energy & Digital Infrastructure
Our client is a fast-growing clean infrastructure developer, investor and in-house EPC contractor, developing, constructing and operating solar, battery energy storage (BESS) and co-located projects across the UK and international markets. The business has also recently launched a data centre development platform, further expanding its presence across the energy and digital infrastructure sectors.
Following a significant funding round, the business is accelerating its growth and is looking to appoint a Head of Financial Modelling to lead and develop its in-house modelling capabilities.
Financial modelling sits at the heart of the business, underpinning acquisitions, project financings, CfD bids, valuations, investor and lender cases, and strategic board decisions.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the modelling function, establish best practices and build a team, with the longer-term ambition of offering modelling services to third parties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Model Ownership: Take responsibility for project finance and corporate financial models across solar, BESS, co-located and data centre assets, spanning acquisition, development, financing and operations.
- Transaction Support: Lead modelling for debt raises, refinancings, acquisitions, disposals and valuations, including investor and lender cases, model audits and lender reviews.
- Standardisation: Develop and maintain a consistent suite of financial models and templates across SPVs, bids and financing transactions.
- Governance & Quality Control: Establish robust modelling standards, including version control, review and sign-off processes, audit trails and documentation.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Finance, Asset Management, Development, Construction and Transaction teams to support commercial and investment decisions.
- Automation & Innovation: Drive the integration of AI and automation into financial modelling processes, building on the business’s existing systems and capabilities.
- Team Development: Build and lead an in-house financial modelling function as the business continues to scale, with the potential to develop a third-party modelling offering over time.
Requirements:
- 4+ years’ experience building, managing and owning financial models within utility-scale renewables, infrastructure or project finance.
- Strong technical financial modelling skills, with experience applying structured modelling standards (FAST, in-house methodologies or equivalent).
- Experience developing models that have undergone lender due diligence and independent model audits.
- Proven ability to present, explain and defend financial models to investors, lenders and senior stakeholders, including board-level audiences.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to translate complex financial analysis into clear business and investment decisions.
- Comfortable taking ownership of a function from day one, operating autonomously within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
