IT Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support and maintain Severfield’s IT landscape, covering on-premises and cloud environments. You will act as a 3rd line escalation point while delivering key IT projects to keep systems secure and performant. You’ll work with Windows and Linux servers, Azure Entra ID, and containerised workloads, aligning infrastructure with business needs. This is a chance to shape backbone systems for a leading steelwork group and partner with cross-functional teams on impactful projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide 3rd line support for day-to-day IT operations and escalate complex issues
• Maintain Windows and Linux servers for performance and security
• Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) including MFA and hybrid identity
• Deploy and manage Azure resources and backups
• Build, deploy and manage Docker-based applications
• Configure and oversee network infrastructure (firewalls, routers, switches)
• Apply system upgrades, patches and new installs across on-prem and cloud
• Lead IT infrastructure projects from design to deployment
• Troubleshoot multi-platform technical issues
• Monitor performance and ensure uptime
• Maintain IT documentation and knowledge sharing

Key requirements

• 3+ years in IT Systems Administration/Engineering with 3rd line support
• Strong Windows and Linux server troubleshooting and management
• Hands-on Microsoft Entra ID / Azure administration with hybrid environments
• Experience with Docker and containerised workloads
• Experience with Cisco/FortiGate firewalls, routers and switches
• Networking, VPNs, security best practices
• Familiarity with virtualization (VMware)
