Project Director

Overview

As Project Director, you will lead HV transmission projects within Murphy’s Energy Team, driving safe, on-time delivery and financial performance. You will set project standards, build the delivery team, and secure effective handovers from the winning to delivery phases. You’ll manage stakeholders, develop cost forecasts and resource plans, and coordinate procurement to meet programme objectives. This role offers impact at scale on national grid projects and a clear path to shape project delivery processes in a growing energy portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Deliver scope safely, on time, and to required quality, meeting acceptance criteria and financial targets
• Set and enforce project standards in line with policies and procedures
• Build and develop the operational/project management team; line-manage Project Managers
• Lead the “fit to start” process to mobilise projects in a controlled, timely manner
• Ensure formal handover from work winning to delivery teams
• Maintain effective stakeholder relationships with client and project partners
• Produce and regularly update detailed project cost forecasts
• Oversee resource planning including staff, labour, plant and materials aligned with programme
• Support procurement of suppliers and subcontractors
• Lead improvement actions to achieve/overperform financial objectives

Key requirements

• Experience delivering HV transmission projects (132kV–400kV) or major civil projects
• Experience in a Project Director or Senior Manager role
• HNC/HND
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness
• Experience on complex multi-discipline enhancement projects with programme and cost controls
• Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building with clients and subcontractors
