ACCIONA is a global infrastructure and renewable energy company operating in more than 60 countries, delivering major infrastructure projects across a wide range of sectors and markets.
As part of ACCIONA’s continued growth in the UK water sector, ACCIONA Agua UK is delivering a flagship clean water infrastructure project valued at over £400 million and running through to 2031, the project represents a major investment in the resilience of London’s clean water infrastructure.
Given the scale and complexity of the project, effective engineering coordination is essential to ensuring that designs are developed, coordinated and delivered safely and efficiently. We are looking for a Project Engineer to join the project team, supporting the coordination of engineering activities across design, construction and technical delivery.
The Opportunity
As a Project Engineer, you will play an important role in coordinating engineering activities and ensuring that technical information, design outputs and construction requirements are aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with the Technical Office, Design, Construction, Temporary Works, Survey, BIM, Asset Protection, Commercial and Commissioning teams, you will help resolve engineering issues, coordinate interfaces and ensure that construction activities are supported by accurate, approved and up-to-date technical information.
The role will involve working across multiple engineering disciplines, supporting the resolution of technical queries, monitoring design progress and facilitating communication between engineering and construction teams. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a £400m+ major clean water infrastructure project, gaining exposure to complex civil engineering works, multidisciplinary coordination and the delivery of critical water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering activities across design, technical and construction teams to support the effective delivery of project works.
- Act as a key interface between the Technical Office, Design, Construction, Temporary Works, Survey, BIM and other project functions.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, design information and technical documentation to ensure they meet project requirements.
- Support the development, review and implementation of engineering solutions in line with approved designs, project specifications and construction requirements.
- Liaise with design teams to monitor design progress, identify outstanding information and ensure deliverables are provided in line with construction requirements.
- Raise, manage and coordinate Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs) and other engineering queries through to resolution.
- Identify and help resolve technical issues, design discrepancies and engineering constraints that may affect construction progress.
- Support the coordination of design changes, ensuring relevant information is communicated to affected project teams and incorporated into project documentation.
- Work closely with Construction teams to understand upcoming work activities, identify engineering requirements and ensure the necessary technical information is available.
- Coordinate engineering interfaces between different disciplines, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Support the review and coordination of temporary works proposals, methodologies and associated engineering documentation.
- Liaise with Survey and BIM teams to ensure engineering information, setting-out requirements, model information and site records are accurate and coordinated.
- Assist with the review of construction methodologies, work packages and technical submissions to ensure alignment with approved designs and project requirements.
- Support engineering input into construction planning, sequencing and programme delivery.
- Monitor outstanding engineering actions, technical deliverables and design dependencies, escalating potential risks or delays where appropriate.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, coordination workshops and engineering progress meetings.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, technical documentation, drawing registers and revision information.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant standards, specifications, quality requirements and health and safety obligations.
- Work with Quality and Construction teams to support inspections, resolve engineering-related non-conformances and ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved information.
- Support the preparation of as-built information, technical records and documentation required for commissioning and final project handover.
- Contribute to the identification and implementation of improvements to engineering coordination, technical processes and project delivery.
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience working as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Section Engineer or in a similar engineering role within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure.
- Experience working on civil engineering or construction projects, ideally involving complex engineering activities and multiple interfaces.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation and construction methodologies.
- Experience coordinating engineering information between design teams and construction teams.
- Ability to review technical information, identify discrepancies and support the resolution of engineering issues.
- Experience managing or coordinating Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs) or similar technical processes.
- Understanding of design changes, drawing revisions and the importance of maintaining accurate technical records.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and track outstanding engineering actions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges and construction delivery.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and technical compliance.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office applications and managing project documentation.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience working on UK water infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on major civil engineering projects involving concrete structures, excavations, reinforced concrete, pipelines or water treatment infrastructure.
- Experience working within a Contractor’s Technical Office or a similar project engineering environment.
- Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines, subcontractors and technical interfaces.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts and the engineering processes associated with construction delivery.
- Experience using Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, ProjectWise, Thinkproject or SharePoint.
- Familiarity with BIM processes, digital engineering information and coordinated 3D models.
