Apply for the Principal C#.NET Engineer | Quantitative Team Energy Trading | Up to £150,000 | London (Hybrid)
Location: London
Job Description:

Principal Software Engineer with front office energy trading experience is needed to join the quantitative engineering team of a major European energy group’s trading business. This is a hands-on, senior technical role building the pricing, risk and trade execution systems that traders rely on every day, with real influence over how those systems are designed and evolve.

You’ll sit at the heart of the front office, working directly alongside quants and traders. The systems you build and support are live and business-critical, so the team needs someone who understands the trading world and can contribute from day one with minimal ramp-up.

As Principal Software Engineer, you will:

  • Build and enhance front office pricing and risk models, working closely with quants to bring models into production
  • Develop direct trade execution and positioning functionality
  • Work primarily on core C# and .NET backend services
  • Support the live trading system and investigate PnL discrepancies and issues as they arise
  • Partner directly with traders and front office users to understand their needs and deliver solutions

This is a technical leadership position rather than a people management one, so you’ll spend your time engineering and setting the standard for how things are built. You’ll report into the engineering lead alongside a small, experienced team, including another principal engineer.

Technology: C#, .NET, SQL Server, APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis and CI/CD

Key Requirements:

  • Extensive C# and .NET backend development experience, at principal or senior-plus level
  • Recent front office experience in energy trading, ideally within the last 3 years
  • Strong Power and Gas experience (candidates from LNG, Oil or wider commodities will also be considered)
  • Ability to calculate and understand PnL, pricing and risk for energy products
  • Proven experience working directly with traders, quants or front office users
  • Experience supporting live trading systems and diagnosing PnL discrepancies
  • Able to hit the ground running with minimal training
  • Looking for a permanent role

Interview process: Online screening – online technical interview – in-person meeting with the team and HR
