Role Overview

Southampton FC is looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to own and develop the club’s cloud data platform. The platform underpins how data is collected, organised and governed across the club, and supports work in player recruitment, opposition analysis and sports science.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the technical build and configuration of the football data platform.
• Build and maintain data pipelines for performance analytics and reporting.
• Look after data quality, governance and data protection compliance.
• Carry out database administration, including performance tuning, indexing, backups and user access.
• Develop AI agents to monitor pipelines for quality and reliability.
• Manage code and version control in Azure DevOps.
• Work with Data Scientists and the sports science and coaching staff, and document the platform.

Person Specification

• Strong experience building scalable data pipelines in Python.
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, ideally Azure and Databricks.
• An understanding of data privacy, governance and quality standards.
• Able to work with teams across the club.
• Knowledge of sporting data such as GPS, event and tracking data is desirable.
