My client is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Manager to lead a housing standards and enforcement service within a local authority.

The successful candidate will oversee a team responsible for improving housing conditions, tackling non-compliant landlords, bringing empty properties back into use and ensuring accommodation meets relevant legal and safety standards.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

• Managing and developing the Private Sector Housing team
• Overseeing HHSRS assessments, HMO inspections and housing enforcement
• Tackling damp, mould and other housing hazards
• Serving statutory notices and managing complex enforcement cases
• Working with Legal Services on prosecutions, court proceedings and tribunals
• Identifying empty properties and bringing them back into use
• Ensuring Council-owned accommodation meets compliance and safety standards
• Monitoring Disabled Facilities Grants and housing adaptations
• Building relationships with landlords, letting agents and partner agencies

Requirements needed

• Experience in Private Sector Housing, ideally within a Local Authority and in management
• Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS and relevant housing legislation
• Experience conducting property inspections and HMO enforcement
• Knowledge of statutory notices, compliance and enforcement procedures
• Experience managing complex cases and leading or supporting a team
• Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
