Our onshore and offshore teams are united in their goal, to boost the UK’s energy security and drive down bills for customers. Rough, our North Sea storage facility, currently provides half of the UK’s gas storage – enough to heat 2.4 million homes over winter. But we’re not stopping there. We’ve got our sights set on transforming it into the world’s largest hydrogen storage facility and creating a Net Zero connected energy hub in the Humber.
Provide Mechanical discipline stewardship, governance and assurance for Centrica Gas Infrastructure operated assets. Act as the most senior designated competent person (Technical Authority) for Mechanical Engineering. Manage a team of Mechanical engineers to provide technical support to operations, projects, asset maintenance and all technical compliance activities within discipline
Key Accountabilities
Manage a team of professional engineers: Mechanical engineers, ensuring required technical standards and compliance are metAccountable for ensuring legal compliance for static plant including pressure systems, HVAC, Burner Boilers, Active & Passive Fire Protection, upfront engineering standards and maintenance procedures for the operational assetsHolds Technical Authority status for Mechanical discipline ensuring relevant skills and competence exists within the team to ensure compliance with standardsActs as focal point within discipline for regulator’s audits and visitsAssesses and manages discipline specific risks to ensure the business is not exposed to unacceptable or unmitigated riskManages a team to ensure Mechanical Engineering Strategy are suitable to support delivery of the Centrica business planEnsure all accountabilities are delivered in a timely manner and to budgetAssuring adherence to standards within discipline and resolving any deviations to ensure technical risks are managedSet company standards, codes of practices and technical policies/procedures in line with industry and Centrica group wide best practices ensuring that they are up to date within review periodDefines and sets competence levels and standards for all roles within mechanical discipline. Sets audit programs and carries out audits to ensure teams are trained and meet the required levelMonitors & audits Engineering and Maintenance activitiesReviews technical bid packages for service contacts, ensures commercial aspects link with technical requirements. Audits service contracts to ensure compliance to contractAudits all management framework procedures to manage major accident hazards, people, legislative, operational, plant, environmental & financial risk to ensure that they are compliant within disciplineWorks with the projects delivery team to specify, design and manage the optimum technical solution in line with business planning guidanceAnalysis of Safety, Operational, Financial, Environmental, Legal, Reputation & Plant risk must be carried out. Any identified gaps must be escalated to the relevant managerProvide direct support to Gas Infrastructure operated assets, as requiredQualifications, Skills & Experience
A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Honours degree acceptable with suitable experienceChartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body and registered with the Engineering Council or working towards itDemonstrate experience at a senior level of mechanical engineering within the Oil & Gas or associated Major Accident Hazard process industries on or offshoreA self-starter, the job holder will operate with minimal guidance and broad direction from the HSE and Technical Director who in conjunction will establish the targets for key areas of work.Risk management skills standards is a major part of the roleSkilled in the application of functional assurance processes and knowledgeable in the application of business processesAble to apply HSE principles across all technical activitiesHas a good insight into the market and is able to assess the commercial impact of engineering decisions on project attractivenessUnderstands the impact of strategic considerations on business decisions and is able to lead negotiations with contractorsLeadership of specialists and peer network within own disciplineJob holder must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate their ability to foster wider relationships within Centrica and wider Oil & Gas industryWell-developed planning and organisational abilityThe ability to act with authority, demonstrate leadership skills and retain the confidence of the teamWhy should you apply?
