The Opportunity
We are working on behalf of an established and growing engineering and fabrication business in the Lisburn area to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in structural steel, architectural metalwork or fabrication who understands how to interpret technical drawings, assess project requirements and produce accurate, commercially sound estimates.
The business is particularly interested in someone who can look beyond material quantities and understand the time, resources and processes involved in taking a project from initial design through to fabrication and installation.
Experience with steel staircases, balconies, balustrades and bespoke architectural metalwork would be particularly advantageous.
The Role
Working closely with the management, design, fabrication and operational teams, you will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates and tender submissions for a variety of projects.
Key responsibilities will include:
Reviewing architectural, engineering and fabrication drawings to establish project requirements.
Producing accurate material take-offs and detailed cost estimates.
Calculating anticipated design, detailing, fabrication and installation hours.
Assessing labour, materials, plant, equipment, transport and cranage requirements.
Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Identifying potential technical, operational and commercial risks within tender submissions.
Liaising with internal department heads to review and validate project costs and assumptions.
Preparing detailed quotations, tender documentation and commercial breakdowns.
Supporting project handovers and working alongside operational teams to ensure a smooth transition from tender to delivery.
Identifying potential variations and changes to project specifications where applicable.
What We’re Looking For
Ideally, you will have:
Previous estimating experience within structural steel, architectural metalwork, steel fabrication or a closely related engineering environment.
The ability to confidently interpret technical and fabrication drawings.
Experience calculating material requirements, labour hours and associated project costs.
A good understanding of fabrication processes, workshop operations and site installation requirements.
Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to work alongside different departments.
A methodical approach with strong attention to detail.
Experience involving steel staircases, balconies, balustrades or bespoke architectural metalwork would be a distinct advantage.
We would also be interested in speaking with technically strong individuals from a fabrication, engineering or project management background who have experience with project costing and are looking to develop further within estimating.
