Staff Software Engineer Engineer, Model Development Platform

Overview

In this role you own the architecture for Wayve’s AI model lifecycle cloud services, enabling data handling, training, experiments, and on-road testing. You’ll build secure, scalable foundations and lead platform engineering with researchers and engineers to ship autonomous driving models safely. You’ll shape technical direction, mentor teams, and drive multi-quarter initiatives across backend services, web apps, and cloud infra. Responsibilities

• Design and evolve scalable platform services focusing on reliability, observability, security and performance
• Own identity, access control and auditability across platform services
• Define patterns and tooling for backend microservices and micro-frontends for independent releases
• Build CI/CD, progressive delivery and safe rollback with observability and self-healing
• Lead end-to-end ownership of significant services from design to production operation
• Coordinate cross-team work with experiment scheduling, data pipelines and distributed compute
• Lead design reviews and mentor engineers to raise engineering standards
• Collaborate with Product, Research, Design and Operations to align solutions with user needs and roadmap

Key requirements

• 7+ years designing and building large-scale distributed systems or cloud platforms
• Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures on a major cloud provider
• Hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization (OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC)
• Proven ability to drive reliability improvements and define SLAs/SLOs
• Proficiency in production code (Python or TypeScript) and modern web architectures (React, micro-frontends)
• Experience with CI/CD, containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• End-to-end ownership track record from design to production
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration and mentorship
