About the Company

We are supporting an established UK transport and engineering business with a varied workshop operation. Its technicians maintain the vehicles and equipment that support day-to-day transport and specialist project work.

The Role

Are you interested in how vehicles and machinery work, and keen to develop a practical career in engineering? We are looking for an Apprentice Mechanic with a willingness to learn, a reliable approach and pride in doing a job properly.

You will build your skills alongside experienced technicians, assisting with maintenance tasks under supervision and learning how a working workshop operates. Your development will focus on plant or light vehicles through the agreed apprenticeship pathway. The wider workshop covers vans, pickups, forklifts, hydraulic jacks and generators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified technicians with routine servicing, inspections and repairs under appropriate supervision.
  • Learn how to identify components, recognise defects and follow maintenance instructions.
  • Support basic checks and fault-finding tasks as your skills and competence develop.
  • Learn to select, use and care for workshop tools and equipment safely.
  • Help prepare work areas, organise parts and maintain good workshop housekeeping.
  • Record work and learning activities accurately, asking for guidance whenever needed.
  • Follow safety instructions, use the required protective equipment and report hazards promptly.
  • Take an active part in the learning and assessments associated with your agreed apprenticeship programme.

Skills and Experience Required

  • A clear interest in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance or vehicle repair.
  • A willingness to learn through practical work, instruction and feedback.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a responsible approach to attendance.
  • The ability to follow instructions carefully and ask questions when unsure.
  • Good teamwork and clear communication.
  • Care, patience and an understanding that safe working comes first.

Desirable Experience

  • Practical experience gained through a college course, work placement, workshop activity or personal project.
  • Some familiarity with hand tools, vehicle components or mechanical equipment.

Candidate Profile

You enjoy hands-on tasks and want to understand why a component works, how a fault develops and how a repair is checked. You are ready to start with the basics, listen to experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility as your capability grows.

Package and Working Arrangements

The apprenticeship pay, working pattern and training arrangements will be discussed with you before you commit to a placement.

Why This Opportunity?

  • Develop practical maintenance skills alongside experienced workshop technicians.
  • Build an understanding of workshop safety, servicing, repairs and technical records.
  • Gain insight into the vehicles and plant supporting an established transport and engineering operation.
  • Develop confidence through supervised work and constructive feedback.

This apprenticeship offers the chance to build practical mechanical skills in a varied workshop environment, learning how safe, accurate maintenance keeps vehicles and equipment ready for work.
