The role
On behalf of a Central Government client, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join a technical engineering team within a Government Department. This is a hands‑on role working closely with software engineers and wider government stakeholders, translating complex technical requirements into clear, actionable deliverables. You’ll play a key role in understanding how shared services and common capabilities are used across government, shaping requirements and helping teams deliver effective, user‑focused solutions. We’re looking for someone with strong technical BA experience, confident engaging with engineers, leading requirements gathering and influencing stakeholders. Previous Central Government experience would be particularly advantageous, ideally including cross‑government engagement and workshop facilitation.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Business Analyst within technical or software engineering environments, working closely with developers and technologists.
- Strong technical requirements gathering, elicitation and analysis skills, translating complex requirements into clear problem statements, epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Experience analysing systems, processes and data, producing models, diagrams and supporting documentation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across multiple organisations.
- Experience managing and prioritising backlogs, epics and dependencies using Jira.
- Ability to lead workshops, facilitate discussions and bring stakeholders together to agree requirements and delivery priorities.
- Experience of Agile delivery environments and iterative ways of working.
- Strong written communication skills, including discovery reports, business cases and design documentation.
Desirable
- Previous Central Government or wider public sector experience, particularly cross‑government engagement.
- Experience leading cross‑government workshops.
- Agile qualifications.
