Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) at Callington Road Hospital, which is at the heart of acute mental health services, provides compassionate & skilled care to adults in an inpatient setting.
HCSWs are vital to our services and play a key role in supporting people with mental health problems to live fulfilling lives as part of a multi-disciplinary team. To succeed in this role, you will need to be highly motivated and passionate about mental healthcare, and genuinely curious about the experiences of people who struggle with the complex challenges of mental illness.

Main duties of the job
- Working as part of a care team to deliver evidence-based interventions to service users with mental health problems.
- Working alongside registered clinicians, a set of therapeutic care skills, making a significant contribution to service users’ psychological, emotional and social wellbeing.
- Ensuring service users and their relatives receive care that prioritises safety, effectiveness, partnership and hope.
- Carrying out observations, engaging with service users, encouraging tasks of daily living, and promoting recovery whilst demonstrating excellent communication.
- Learning and understanding how to care for service users that are in mental health crisis by promoting choice and independence in the least restrictive way possible.
- Because our patients need us around the clock, you’ll need to be able to work a variety of shifts across a 24‑hour period, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
