Senior Engineer – Materials & Special Processes

Overview

In this role you will support both production activities and technology programs, helping deliver robust manufacturing process technologies for materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly. You’ll work across Bristol sites and the Global Technology Centre, collaborating with design, stress and production teams to enable zero-defect projects. You will lead tests, analyze data, define deliverables, and provide technical guidance on materials and processes. This is a hands-on, cross-site role that blends development with operations and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Support operational and development programs to enable zero-defect projects
• Deliver robust manufacturing process technologies for materials, tooling, fabrication and assembly
• Promote GKN’s technical capability globally to customers, suppliers and steering groups
• Process inputs into outputs with quality and schedule adherence
• Prepare tests and analyze test data to substantiate specifications
• Plan projects with deliverables and milestones
• Provide troubleshooting and production support on composite materials manufacturing
• Handle non-conformances and interface with customers on M&P topics
• Maintain supplier contacts for alternatives/new products
• Write, review and approve M&P documentation including test and qualification plans and reports
• Advise on selection, testing, evaluation and qualification of materials and processes
• Lead projects or work packages
• Support production activities

Key requirements

• BSc / MSc in Chemistry, Materials Science or Aerospace Engineering
• Experience with composite materials manufacturing, qualification and handling deviations
• Minimum 7 years aerospace experience
• Experience with quality systems, specifications and standards
• Team player with proactive attitude and ability to work independently and report to stakeholders
