Senior Cost Consultant

Overview

In this role you will lead cost management across major Highway and Aviation programmes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate commercial outcomes. You will manage multiple workstreams, mentor junior staff, and ensure governance and client satisfaction. The position offers interaction with contractors and clients on site, contributing to value-driven infrastructure delivery. This is a chance to shape cost strategies within a global sustainability-focused consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Lead cost management activities for small to medium schemes or defined packages within larger programmes from inception to completion
• Prepare, manage and present cost plans, budgets and financial reports to ensure accuracy and alignment with project requirements
• Analyze complex commercial data to identify risks, opportunities and trends with actionable recommendations
• Coach and support junior team members to build capability and maintain high delivery standards
• Work within governance and financial systems to track budgets, monitor expenditure and manage variances
• Provide advice on risk, compliance and assurance, ensuring contractual obligations are met
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote best practices across projects
• Engage with clients to provide updates, resolve issues and identify value-adding opportunities to strengthen relationships

Key requirements

• Minimum 8 years of experience delivering cost management across Rail, Highway, Aviation or broader infrastructure
• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts including compensation events and compliant delivery
• Mentoring experience with junior colleagues and leadership capability
• Strong stakeholder management with clients, contractors and external partners
• Ability to manage work packages independently to completion
• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Professional qualification or chartered status (e.g. RICS)
• CSCS card holder or willingness to obtain
