Senior / Principal Sustainability Consultant – BREEAM Assessor

Overview

In this role you drive sustainability outcomes for building certification and decarbonisation across a varied project portfolio. You will lead UK certification workstreams, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with international experts to shape Net Zero strategies. The position sits in a growing Sustainability team focused on measurable carbon reduction and energy efficiency for clients in real estate and infrastructure. You’ll contribute to ambitious city and building decarbonisation programs, delivering high-quality outputs that support clients’ sustainability goals. Responsibilities

• Lead and manage building certification projects and competitive bids
• Provide expert guidance on BREEAM, WELL and other schemes
• Support decarbonisation targets and practical pathways
• Assist senior colleagues in project delivery
• Coordinate with clients, partners and stakeholders
• Deliver sustainability advice in early design stages
• Produce technically concise summaries and reports
• Analyse large datasets and translate findings into outputs
• Mentor junior consultants and support seniors
• Oversee internal quality assurance
• Recommend low carbon design measures to clients and designers
• Present findings and outcomes to clients

Key requirements

• Strong understanding of building design, construction processes, and material performance
• Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
• Deep knowledge of BREEAM, WELL, and other environmental standards
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through certification processes
• Experience preparing and leading tenders and proposals
• Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, architecture, building services or related discipline
• Demonstrable expertise in building certification schemes
• Strong grounding in environmental impact assessment and environmental science
• 5+ years’ experience in sustainability consulting within the built environment
• Licensed BREEAM Assessor
• Proven experience delivering certification projects and leading or mentoring teams
• Experience integrating low carbon and climate resilient design solutions
• Commercial awareness related to business development, marketing, and proposal writing
