Education Solicitor – Birmingham

Overview

In this Education Solicitor role based in Birmingham, you will manage a caseload of complex education matters and support junior colleagues. You will advise on admissions, exclusions, disability discrimination, safeguarding, and related education issues, including SEND Tribunal appeals and Judicial Reviews. You’ll build strong client relationships with schools, local authorities, and charities, while contributing to training and thought leadership. This position offers meaningful work shaping education outcomes and access to justice within a leading national context.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex education matters, including SEND Tribunal appeals
• Advise on school admissions, exclusions, disability discrimination, and related issues
• Handle complaints against local authorities and schools; conduct Judicial Reviews & UTT appeals
• Provide safeguarding and education law guidance to schools/colleges
• Offer EHCP health checks and SEN strategy advice; work on community care linked to education
• Supervise junior colleagues and review case files
• Build relationships with clients, charities, and education organisations
• Produce training, seminars, and articles for external dissemination

Key requirements

• Solid experience in education law; public law knowledge an advantage
• Ability to work independently on issued cases
