Preconstruction Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead pre-construction for the Marine and Tunnels scope of Sizewell C, shaping delivery strategies and constructability. You will liaise with design teams and stakeholders to embed constructability and coordinate interfaces, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant solutions. You’ll guide onshore and offshore tunnelling approaches and prepare technical submissions for cost and execution plans. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence delivery strategy on a landmark UK infrastructure program.

Responsibilities

• Develop construction methodologies that optimise safety, schedule certainty and productivity within project constraints and regulatory requirements
• Lead method-led execution strategies for tunnelling works including launch adits, segmental lining and SCL works; manage onshore launch shafts and offshore connections
• Conduct constructability reviews to identify and manage temporary/permanent works interfaces and mitigate risks
• Define space, access routes, temporary facilities, utilities, lifting operations, logistics and muck-away requirements
• Coordinate multidisciplinary pre-construction workstreams and interface management with relevant parties
• Align tunnelling scope with logistics and surface works teams for construction-stage readiness
• Develop technical inputs and construction assumptions underpinning scope definition, pricing and risk allowances
• Oversee specialist consultants and contractors performing ECI activities
• Embed constructability in design processes and influence design decisions from construction perspective
• Lead preparation of technical submissions for TOC approval, including execution plans and delivery strategies
• Support timely procurement of tunnelling items, defining specifications and operating requirements
• Mentor engineers and package managers involved in the tunnelling scope

Key requirements

• Significant experience in major infrastructure and tunnelling construction projects
• Experience in pre-construction planning, method development and constructability reviews
• Proven track record delivering across full lifecycle in complex, regulated environments
• Collaborative leader with safety‑led, respectful and positive working style
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to lead technical reviews, drive collaboration and influence decisions
• Ability to integrate technical, programme and commercial considerations into clear strategies
