Engineering Machining Manager – Wolverhampton

Overview

In this role you will lead a machining and grinding operation near Wolverhampton, driving efficiency and growth in aerospace and industrial sectors. You will manage a ~30-strong team, ensuring on-time delivery, high-quality engineering output, and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with the CEO, stay site-based, and shape manufacturing capabilities, including NPI and NPD, to meet customer demands and improve profitability. This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on problem-solving and shopfloor engagement. You will help sustain best practices and conformance to quality standards while delivering robust production performance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure best engineering practice and accurate capabilities deployment including NPI, NPD and manufacturing accuracy
• Collaborate with the managerial team to resolve production/engineering issues across processes
• Engage with internal teams on production methods, cost reduction, and profitability improvements
• Support ISO 9001/AS9100 quality/documentation procedures and maintain conformance to customer demands
• Assign tasks to team members to balance workload and maintain progress
• Maintain shopfloor engagement and monitor manufacturing capabilities to support throughput and delivery
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and best-practice sharing across the operation

Key requirements

• Degree level qualification preferred or proven practical experience
• Experience leading engineering/manufacturing teams in CNC grinding, machining or precision operations
• Experience in fast-paced SME environments (aerospace/defence/automotive/medical)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
• Site-based with hands-on leadership and problem-solving capability
