Community CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist – South Kent

Overview

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in the South Kent CAMHS team, you will lead specialist mental health care for children and young people under 18 in Dover and Folkestone. You will work within a Tier 3 CAMHS setting, providing assessment, treatment planning and care coordination with a focus on complex neurodevelopmental and mood-related conditions. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver evidence-based care and contribute to education and service improvement. This role offers a chance to influence local child and adolescent mental health services at scale and join a values-driven NHS team.

Responsibilities

• Provide autonomous, accountable clinical care within GMC guidelines and Trust policies
• Maintain GMC Licence to Practise and aim for Specialist Register status, with Approved Clinician and S12 eligibility as required
• Continue professional development through accredited courses, workshops, and internal training
• Deliver high-quality service by assessing, planning, and evaluating care for complex paediatric patients
• Develop and coordinate care plans for a range of conditions, including chronic, acute, and palliative care within competency
• Initiate referrals to other specialists and agencies as needed
• Inform and educate patients and families to support informed choices and quality of life
• Support practice with evidence-based literature, research and peer review

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Fully registered with the GMC with a Licence to Practise
• On the GMC Specialist Register OR within 6 months of completing CCT in psychiatry
• Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Desirable: MRCPsych
• Desirable: additional qualifications in medical education, research or management

• Excellent communication (oral and written) in English
• ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty

• Mastery in managing a broad range of mental disorders in children including neurodevelopmental disorders
• bio-psycho-social approach to care
