Underwriter – Hull & War

Overview

In this role you will underwrite Hull & War risks within Travelers’ Marine portfolio and work closely with brokers to grow our Lloyd’s market presence. You will own new business and renewals, guided by underwriting standards and regulatory controls, while mentoring teammates as needed. You help drive profitability, growth and consistency across the line of business. Responsibilities

• Support profitability, growth and retention of the Hull & War line within Marine portfolios
• Ensure underwriting decisions comply with policies, controls, and Lloyd’s standards
• Research target business, competitors, and market factors to support business development
• Accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements in the systems for reporting and compliance
• Prepare data and reports to support underwriting policies and standards
• Monitor market and global factors to identify new opportunities
• Promote Travelers’ underwriting philosophy to agents, brokers and customers and build partnerships
• Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching as appropriate
• Perform other duties as assigned

Key requirements

• Experience in the Lloyd’s market
• Hull & War underwriting experience
• Demonstrated technical proficiency commensurate with underwriting authority
• Ability to make sound quoting and pricing decisions in the company’s interests
• Strong judgment, communication and teamwork
• Relationship management capabilities
• Analytical thinking/financial acumen
• Product/technical knowledge at a level commensurate with underwriting authority
• Business perspective with understanding of Lloyd’s market factors
• Currently studying towards ACII
