In this role you will lead the design, development and verification of motor drive systems for aerospace actuation, shaping advanced electric propulsion solutions within a new Wolverhampton facility. You will own the architecture, drive cross-functional teams, and ensure rigorous engineering processes and certification readiness. Collaborating with mechanical, software, and systems teams, you will push for innovative, differentiating motor drive technologies. Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for motor drive system design, including power electronics and control algorithms
- Own architecture and design decisions across the development lifecycle
- Coordinate electronics, software, firmware, and test activities related to motor drives
- Collaborate with mechanical and systems teams to integrate motor drive subsystems
- Develop robust requirements and support risk/change control for motor drive subsystem
- Lead validation, verification, and testing plans for motor drive controller subsystems
- Monitor emerging technologies and advocate innovative approaches
- Apply evidence-based engineering with digital simulation, root-cause analysis, and DOE
- Produce design justification data and manage ambiguity with risk frameworks
- Participate in design reviews, failure investigations and RCA
- Define technical work packages, priorities and development plans
- Act as SME for motor drive technologies and support roadmaps and innovation
- Ensure compliance with aerospace development processes and certification requirements
- Foster technical excellence and knowledge sharing
- Support customer interactions and design reviews with stakeholders
- Collaborate with programme management to assess and mitigate technical risks
- Drive continuous improvement in methodologies and tools
- Role involves <20% international travel
- Onsite role at Collins Aerospace facility in Wolverhampton
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Control Engineering
- Significant experience designing and verifying motor drive systems and power electronics
- Strong expertise in power electronics design including inverter topologies and gate drive circuits
- Experience with analogue and digital electronics
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and systems-thinking capabilities
- Strong communication skills with stakeholders and certification bodies
