Engineering Manager – Business Expense Management

Overview

As part of Wise’s Spend Squad, you will shape the Business Expense Management experience for thousands of small businesses. You’ll own the end‑to‑end process of tracking, submitting, and reconciling expenses, enabling simple, compliant, and transparent bookkeeping. The role connects business and card squads to align roadmaps and deliver new features that save time and reduce manual work. You’ll build robust backend systems and leverage automation, including LLM-based workflows, to scale expense processes. This is an impact-driven opportunity to help businesses spend smarter and focus on what matters.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust distributed backend systems to support expense management features
• Own the technical roadmap and lead the development of new solutions for the Business Expense Management domain
• Guide architectural design, code reviews, and best practices; ensure code quality and maintainability
• Enable efficient receipt collection, expense submission, and policy enforcement for businesses
• Automate month-end processes using LLM technologies (document scanning, auto‑categorisation, auto‑reconciliation)
• Provide visibility over expenses for business owners and finance heads
• Collaborate with Business, Spend, and Account squads to align roadmaps and drive growth
• Lead and mentor engineers across levels; partner with Product Managers on roadmaps and strategy
• Represent the team in cross-functional discussions and drive projects from inception to release
