Principal Accessibility Specialist, Amazon Experiences and Upskilling

Overview

As Principal Accessibility Specialist at AXU, you will drive accessibility adoption across multiple Amazon teams, shaping audience enablement and engagement. You will define strategies and create high-value content to empower engineers, product managers, designers, and learning professionals to build accessible experiences. You will partner with cross-functional teams to surface barriers, translate lived disability experience into requirements, and scale best practices. This role offers the opportunity to impact daily experiences for Amazonians and external communities by embedding accessibility at policy and practice, and by leading with independence in a complex, ambiguity-filled landscape

Responsibilities

• Define accessibility enablement strategy across AXU for diverse communities
• Plan and deliver multi-audience accessibility content and training
• Establish reusable content standards and best practices
• Create playbooks, training modules, reference architectures, remediation guides, and templates
• Lead content creation where the long-term approach is ambiguous
• Serve as the accessibility face for AXU across teams and design distinct engagement models
• Collaborate with DLS/Pa11y, Wa11y, and existing teams to integrate standards
• Facilitate user testing with employees with disabilities
• Advise on accessible architecture and assistive technology interoperability
• Build organizational capability at scale and design scalable mechanisms
• Recruit, mentor, and grow the accessibility community

Key requirements

• 7+ years of program or project management experience
• 7+ years of cross-functional project delivery experience
• 7+ years of experience communicating results to senior leadership
• 7+ years of cross-functional collaboration with tech and non-tech teams
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics for improvements
• Significant experience in digital accessibility (evaluation, implementation, assistive tech, or accessible content development)
• Expert knowledge of WCAG 2.2 and EN301549 and their application across web, mobile, and documents
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex accessibility problems into actionable guidance for non-specialists
• Track record of building organizational capability from individual expertise to embedded practice
