Senior Consultant (Rail Advisory)

Overview

As Senior Consultant in the Rail Advisory Team, you will leverage deep rail analytics to support safe, timely delivery of work packages and proposals, shaping high-profile transport projects. You will combine technical data analysis with client engagement to generate robust insights and drive business growth. You’ll mentor colleagues, coordinate reporting, and develop opportunities with key rail stakeholders. The role offers scope to influence sustainable transport solutions within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Support project delivery for diverse work packages across the Rail Advisory Team and other groups
• Take ownership of small to medium value proposals with clear scope and milestones
• Contribute to larger proposals and coordinate business development activity
• Ensure complex technical tasks are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and support their professional development
• Prepare and take responsibility for elements of SYSTRA reports
• Communicate technical and project information clearly to clients and colleagues
• Deliver modelling and analysis using rail data (passenger demand, revenue, fares, crowding)
• Maintain strong relationships with DfT, Network Rail, rail operators and other clients
• Identify and initiate sales opportunities and share market insights

Key requirements

• Experience delivering analytical or modelling projects using rail data
• Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to build credibility with clients and colleagues
• Excellent presentation, written and numerical skills
• Time management and ability to support others
• Knowledge of rail demand forecasting methodologies, especially PDFH, and MOIRA and/or MOIRA2
• Proven track record delivering analytical outputs for rail operators, DfT, Network Rail, ORR
• Experience in rail demand forecasting research techniques
• Project management experience in a client-facing environment
• A degree in a relevant subject
