Overview

As Technical Design Lead, you steer large-scale design programs from FEED to closeout within a leading energy and engineering consultancy. You’ll manage resources, risks, and budgets while serving as a primary client liaison to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery and high satisfaction. You’ll oversee compliance with UK regulations and standards, lead contract negotiations, and coordinate cross-functional teams including National Grid projects. This role offers impact through shaping major landmark initiatives and driving a world-class client service culture. You will work closely with leadership to grow the business and develop the department.

Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale design projects from FEED to closeout
• Provide end-to-end project management including resourcing, risk, and financial oversight
• Serve as main client point of contact to ensure satisfaction
• Ensure compliance with UK regulations and safety standards
• Lead contract negotiations and pursue new business opportunities
• Manage subcontractors, regulatory bodies, and project stakeholders
• Act as Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE)
• Lead engineering design efforts across the UK in collaboration with Engineering Director
• Drive strategic development of the department and support business planning
• Foster a world-class customer service culture and uphold ethics and integrity
• Act as principal designer representative (PD Rep)

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with design management experience
• Advanced understanding of UK CDM Regulations and forms of contracts (NEC, FIDIC)
• Proven experience managing multiple high-value, complex projects
• Experience with National Grid Electricity Transmission projects is an advantage
• Strong technical, contractual, and financial management skills
• Leadership in fostering client success and world-class service
• Ability to mentor and guide junior staff
• Proven track record in business growth and identifying opportunities
