Head of Health & Safety

Overview

In this strategic leadership role, you will shape the UK Health & Safety governance and culture for N Brown’s supply chain, with a strong operational focus on warehousing and MHE safety. You will drive ISO 45001-aligned strategy, risk governance, and continuous improvement across multiple sites. You’ll partner with operational leaders to deliver measurable safety performance and risk reduction while safeguarding colleagues and the business. Responsibilities

• Define and implement the UK H&S strategy and annual plan aligned to ISO 45001
• Establish governance, escalation routes and RACI across the organisation
• Provide insight-led reporting to senior forums (Audit & Risk) with trends and corrective actions
• Oversee risk assessment governance (RAMS) and safe systems of work for UK operations
• Lead incident, near-miss and accident investigations with root cause analysis
• Set audit/inspection expectations and track closure of actions
• Set and enforce MHE/FLT safety standards including training and competence frameworks
• Lead fire safety management, including risk assessments and liaison with authorities
• Define KPI/KRI framework and ensure accurate safety data and systems
• Maintain regulatory compliance with UK H&S and fire safety laws; manage regulator relationships
• Build safety culture, coach leaders, and drive ownership of safety across the organisation
• Manage H&S budget and resource planning with business-case driven investments

Key requirements

• Significant H&S leadership experience in complex UK operations (multi-site preferred)
• Strong knowledge of warehouse hazards and MHE/FLT safety (competence management, assurance, maintenance governance)
• Proven track record in developing and embedding management systems and risk governance
• Experience presenting to executives/board and using data to drive decisions
• Knowledge of PUWER/LOLER and fire safety compliance; NEBOSH and IOSH credentials preferred
