Project or Senior Hydraulic Modeller

Overview

As a Senior/Project Hydraulic Modeller at SLR, you will lead hydraulic modelling and flood risk work for public and private sector clients. You join a collaborative Flood Risk and Water Environment team and help grow the modelling capability across the UK. You’ll deliver end-to-end 1D/2D modelling, FRA production, and client-facing reporting, with opportunities to influence project delivery and cross-disciplinary solutions. This role offers hybrid working and broad exposure to high-profile water management challenges that support sustainable development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hydraulic modelling and flood risk projects from inception to completion
• Build, interrogate and self-check 1D and 2D hydraulic models using Flood Modeller and TUFLOW
• Prepare technical reports, model documentation and supporting calculations for senior review
• Produce FRAs for developments and infrastructure projects across England and Scotland
• Conduct site visits and catchment walkovers to inform model development
• Liaise with clients, regulators and Local Lead Flood Authorities throughout delivery
• Collaborate with hydrologists and other specialists to deliver integrated solutions
• Support planning, programme management and QA processes and contribute to capability development

Key requirements

• Degree in a relevant field (Civil Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Geography, Environmental Science)
• Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent)
• Strong experience developing, operating and interrogating hydraulic models with Flood Modeller and TUFLOW
• Experience delivering hydraulic modelling for flood risk management and infrastructure projects
• Experience producing robust model/build and verification reports and flood mapping deliverables
• Experience preparing FRAs in England and Scotland
• Knowledge of EA, SEPA, NRW, and Local Lead Flood Authorities requirements
• Site visit experience informing model development and risk assessments
• Liaison with clients, regulators and stakeholders throughout projects
• GIS experience (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS)
• Ability to work independently and manage time/resources across multiple projects
• Experience on public and private sector projects
