Overview
As a Data Scientist in Trainline’s Customer Growth team, you shape how marketing is measured and understood to drive commercial decisions. You’ll own a set of fast-moving measurement projects, applying Python, causal inference and geo-experimentation to reveal marketing impact. You will combine signals from multiple sources, translate findings into practical recommendations, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to improve measurement capabilities and decision-making. This role offers the chance to influence growth through rigorous, data-driven marketing insights and to help Build Trainline’s marketing measurement maturity.

Responsibilities
- Design and deliver robust measurement approaches for marketing effectiveness and incremental impact
- Apply Python, causal inference and geo-experimentation techniques to analyze performance
- Fuse evidence from multiple data sources to present a balanced view where no single method suffices
- Translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations for marketing investments
- Collaborate with marketing, analytics and cross-functional teams to define questions and scope
- Manage multiple analytical projects simultaneously balancing pace, quality and business value
- Apply pragmatic judgement with incomplete data and clearly communicate assumptions and confidence
- Contribute to the development of Trainline’s marketing measurement capabilities and tooling
Key requirements
- Strong practical experience using Python to analyze data, build measurement approaches and communicate findings
- Experience applying causal inference, geo-experimentation or related methods to real-world business questions
- Pragmatic, commercially focused approach with ability to balance rigor and timely decisions
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to varied stakeholders
- Ability to manage several projects or workstreams concurrently
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to translate business questions into analyses
- Ideally familiarity with marketing measurement, marketing effectiveness or marketing mix modelling, but transferable experience welcome
