Civil Engineer / Senior Civil Engineer – Infrastructure

Overview

As a Civil Engineer in the Taunton Infrastructure team, you contribute to drainage, highway and infrastructure design for diverse public and private schemes. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to deliver outputs on time while developing toward a Senior Engineer role. The role offers mentoring, training, and a clear progression path within a collaborative, community-focused culture. You will impact local development through sustainable drainage, S277/S38 and S104 approvals, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drainage strategies, calculations and SuDS reports for planning
• Create plans and drawings across development stages from concept to construction
• Design Earthworks, Pavement, Drainage and prepare related specifications
• Perform QA checks to ensure high-quality design delivery
• Liaise with Local Authorities and stakeholders to secure approvals
• Collaborate with clients, third parties and multi-disciplinary teams on project aspects
• Assist during construction including site queries and inspections
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
• Experience in Infrastructure Design
• Experience with SuDS design and current standards
• Experience coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders
• Experience with Contractors and supervising construction works
• Experience with S278 and S38 highway schemes and managing approvals
• Knowledge of S104 and S106 for drainage
• Ability to represent the employer client-facing
• Ability to work independently
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Infodrainage or MicroDrainage
