Overview

As a Product Design Engineer at Cummins DBU in Wellingborough, you apply engineering principles to create optimized design concepts and mechanical specifications that meet cross-functional requirements. You’ll translate customer needs into effective engineering solutions and support product design objectives throughout the lifecycle. In this role, you will diagnose product issues, drive continuous improvement, and lead design reviews using tools like iDFMEA, CREO and ANSYS Workbench. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance technical, cost and reliability goals while advancing Lean Product Development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate product issues, determine root causes and implement sustainable improvements
  • Lead critical design reviews and validation activities using iDFMEA, CREO and ANSYS Workbench
  • Develop and maintain 3D models and mechanical designs (Creo preferred)
  • Support Lean Product Development (LPD), Value Package Introduction (VPI) and Current Product Support (CPS) activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate requirements and provide technical recommendations
  • Manage project priorities, timelines and deliverables with technicians, suppliers and team members
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance products, processes and team performance
  • Deliver solutions balancing technical requirements with quality, cost and reliability objectives

Key requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Experience applying engineering principles to product design, development, product support or problem-solving
  • Experience creating engineering designs and 3D models using PTC Creo (preferred) or equivalent CAD software
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies, design reviews, or continuous improvement processes
  • Experience in collaborative, cross-functional environments and technical project delivery
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • PTC Creo (preferred) or equivalent CAD software
  • iDFMEA
  • ANSYS Workbench
