Engineering Supervisor (Electrical)

Overview

In this role you will lead the campus electrical engineering team to deliver safe, compliant maintenance across the estate. You’ll balance hands-on and supervisory duties, driving operational excellence and stakeholder satisfaction. You’ll develop the team, promote safety and accountability, and coordinate with contractors to align with university policies and SLAs. Your work helps maintain critical systems and reliable services that support teaching, research, and campus life. Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate engineering staff and maintenance activities across the campus estate
• Oversee the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme ensuring compliance with regulations and policies
• Manage and optimise site maintenance schedules and resource use
• Coordinate reactive maintenance tasks to meet SLAs and resolve issues promptly
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and compliance checks in the CAFM system
• Engage with campus stakeholders (Operations, Project Teams) and supervise external contractors
• Support team development through guidance, mentoring, and training needs assessment
• Maintain Safe Systems of Work and manage permits to work and health, safety, environment standards
• Carry out authorised and competent person duties within your trade as appointed
• Support water management compliance and fault diagnosis/emergency response across buildings

Key requirements

• Electrical qualification with three years’ experience (Level 3 in Electrical Installations BS 7671 or equivalent)
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
• Excellent Excel and computer skills
• Proven supervisory experience
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
