Overview
In this role you will design, test, and integrate railway electronic solutions within the Bach-Simpson monitoring team. You will collaborate with product, operations and support to ensure compliance and reliability, driving improvements across engineering workflows. The focus is on delivering robust hardware-software systems for transit electronics, with opportunities to influence early product development and manufacturing transition. You will work on complex, cross-functional projects that shape reliable rail technology.

Responsibilities
- Design, troubleshoot and maintain complex software and hardware systems to meet quality standards
- Drive engineering process improvements for efficiency and productivity
- Configure and maintain key engineering systems and tooling
- Assist in concept design and early-stage product development
- Read PCB schematics and apply circuit theory and PCB design principles
- Document processes using flowcharts (Visio) and maintain technical docs
- Contribute to automation tooling via coding/scripting (C, C++, Python, VBA)
- Verify hardware functionality across the development lifecycle and support design criteria per contracts
- Support business development with proposal materials and customer communications
- Plan project schedules and participate in process improvements and CMMI expansion
- Support transition of designs to manufacturing with DFM/DFT reviews and production issue resolution
- Develop firmware architecture docs, ICDs, and design specifications
- Engage with cross-functional teams and travel to customer sites when needed
Key requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering with 5+ years in Electrical and/or Software design
- Embedded systems experience, communications, and programming
- Strong PCB design (analog/digital/mixed-signal) and schematic capture
- Prototype bring-up, hardware validation, and troubleshooting
- Embedded software development and system integration (microcontrollers such as PIC32)
- Advanced C/C++ and low-level device drivers
- Networking know-how (Ethernet, TCP/IP)
- Hands-on debugging with JTAG/SWD, scopes, analyzers
- Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB
- Hardware components interfacing (DSPs, MCUs, ADC/DAC, sensors)
- Regulatory compliance activities (safety, EMC) and EOL management
- DFM/DFT awareness and manufacturing transition
- Technical documentation and version control (Git)
- Python, JavaScript, Visual Basic programming
- MS Office proficiency
- Willingness to travel 10–25%
