Principal Research Engineer – Systems Engineering

Overview

In this role you will lead systems engineering across a broad technology portfolio to shape future flight. You will embed MBSE and standard methods within software, controls, structures, and other disciplines, driving consistency and capability growth. You’ll act as a technical authority while mentoring teams and integrating tools to deliver safe, compliant aerospace systems. The position blends technical leadership with strategic framework development and cross-functional collaboration to push aerospace innovation.

Responsibilities

• Provide systems engineering leadership across the full lifecycle to align teams with Best Fit concepts
• Develop and deploy a Systems Engineering Framework tailored to aerospace tech development
• Champion Codebeamer for requirements capture, traceability, Agile tasking, and governance reporting
• Coach and develop the systems personnel, supporting career progression and performance goals
• Lead integration of tools into a coherent digital-thread approach
• Mentor cross-functional teams and represent projects internally and externally
• Manage reports and capability growth within the portfolio

Key requirements

• Expert in systems engineering lifecycle (ISO/IEC 15288, INCOSE) with MBSE experience (SysML)
• Hands-on experience with Codebeamer for requirements management, traceability, and reporting
• Strong requirements elicitation, decomposition, interface management, and V&V planning
• Proven track record in defining and deploying SE frameworks across programmes
• Ability to integrate tools into a digital-thread approach
• Experience leading and mentoring cross-functional engineering teams
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to represent projects to diverse audiences
• STEM degree (Chartered Engineer or INCOSE credentials or equivalent)
