Overview

In this role you will lead protection relay programming, testing and commissioning for MV and LV protection systems within Vertiv’s protection engineering portfolio. You will work on relay configuration, wiring diagrams interpretation, and end-to-end protection testing to ensure reliable protection schemes. You’ll collaborate across protection, control, and SCADA/EPMS interfaces to deliver validated protection solutions. This is a hands-on position that combines field testing, FAT/SAT, and final system validation in a mission-critical context.

Responsibilities

• Program and configure protection relays for MV/LV systems and validate protection schemes
• Interpret SLDs, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Perform secondary injection testing, functional and trip testing, and interlock verification
• Conduct FAT, SAT, commissioning, site testing, troubleshooting, and final validation of protection systems
• Verify relay settings against protection coordination studies and prepare/test reports and commissioning documentation
• Integrate protection relays with PLC/RTU/SCADA/EPMS and participate in end-to-end communication testing
• Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks (Modbus, Profibus/Profinet, IEC 61850) and data points
• Review communication architecture drawings, network topology, I/O lists, and cause-and-effect diagrams

Key requirements

• B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering
• 7–12 years of experience in protection relay programming, testing, commissioning, and protection/control systems
• Experience with MV switchgear, control and relay panels and protection systems
• Hands-on experience with ABB, Siemens, Schneider relays and platforms (ABB Relion, Siemens SIPROTEC, Schneider Easergy/SEPAM)
• Strong knowledge of protection schemes (overcurrent, earth fault, directional protection, voltage/frequency, transformer, motor, busbar)
• Experience with secondary injection testing, functional/trip testing, and end-to-end protection testing
• FAT/SAT and commissioning experience for MV/LV protection systems
• Experience with OMICRON or equivalent relay test equipment preferred
• Ability to verify relay settings against protection coordination studies
• Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus, Profibus/Profinet, and network diagnostics
