Delivery Director – Public Sector

Overview

As Senior Delivery Director, you will lead large-scale, government IT portfolios end-to-end, ensuring delivery quality, governance, and financial performance. You will partner with CXO-level stakeholders to secure strategic growth and high client satisfaction while managing multi-supplier delivery in a risk-aware, transparent environment. You will operate within public sector frameworks and central government standards to drive measurable outcomes for complex programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale, complex government portfolios (£30m+) with full accountability for delivery performance, governance, quality, and financial outcomes
• Oversee multiple concurrent programmes and projects aligned to client strategy and contractual commitments
• Maintain proactive, no-surprises delivery culture with forecasting, risk management and transparent reporting
• Build and sustain senior-level government relationships and achieve high client satisfaction
• Act as senior escalation point resolving complex commercial, operational, and delivery challenges
• Own programme financial performance including budget control, margin management, forecasting and cost modelling
• Manage contractual obligations across varied public sector contracting models
• Support pre-sales and bid activity with delivery validation and mobilisation readiness
• Collaborate with Client Partners to identify and drive growth and account expansion opportunities
• Ensure robust governance, assurance, and reporting, monitor KPIs and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and change control
• Operate within central government processes, including GDS Service Standards and Technical Code of Practice
• Lead cross-disciplinary, distributed teams and foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

Key requirements

• Proven track record leading complex government sector programmes (£50m+)
• Experience in large-scale transformation and policy-driven digital services (tax, compliance)
• Extensive CXO-level stakeholder engagement and influence
• Experience managing distributed, multi-supplier and client-side teams
• Strong commercial acumen with financial modelling and margin management
• Understanding of UK Government procurement and governance frameworks
• Practical experience with Agile, Scaled Agile, MSP, and hybrid delivery
• Ability to manage ambiguity and risk with a proactive mindset
• Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
