Overview
In this role you will identify and pursue public sector opportunities in construction, refurb and maintenance projects, working with a Director to generate new enquiries. You will nurture relationships, monitor client frameworks, and support bid preparation through the process. The role sits with the business development function, collaborating closely with pre-construction and estimating teams to align opportunities with capabilities. You’ll represent the company at industry events to raise profile and drive growth. This position offers a route to shape the firm’s public sector pipeline in Essex and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new public sector opportunities across construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects.
- Monitor and manage the existing client database, including framework renewal dates and engagement timing.
- Organise and attend networking events, trade shows, and industry functions to build relationships and raise profile.
- Support Directors with business development initiatives, proposals, client meetings, and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with pre-construction and estimating teams to align opportunities with capabilities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, competitors, and tendering opportunities.
Key requirements
- Proven experience in a business development role within the construction industry, ideally with a main contractor.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement and frameworks (e.g., NHS, local authorities, education).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- A network of industry contacts in Essex/London/Home Counties would be advantageous.
