Duty Crime Solicitor – Leicester

Overview

In this role you support a broad criminal caseload across Magistrates’, Youth, and Crown Courts, providing clear legal guidance to clients. You will file prep work, draft documents, and represent clients at hearings with a focus on rights and options. Collaboration with barristers, investigators, and support staff is essential as you stay current with criminal law procedures. The position offers exposure to varied cases in a Midlands-based firm environment with a commitment to diversity and inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of criminal law matters representing clients in Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts
• Provide clear, expert legal advice to clients ensuring they understand their rights and options
• Prepare case files, draft legal documents, and attend pre-trial hearings and trial proceedings
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues including barristers, investigators, and support staff
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, procedures, and best practices in criminal law

Key requirements

• At least 1 years’ PQE
• Police Station Accreditation
• Previous experience in a similar role
• Ability to work on the Police Station out of hours rota
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to travel to different Court centres and Police Stations across Leicester
