Development Engineer | Northampton

Overview

In this role you support the delivery of residential developments from land acquisition through site completion. You will collaborate with internal teams, external consultants and on-site staff to ensure designs are accurate, compliant and cost-effective. The role focuses on coordinating engineering output, resolving technical issues, and ensuring regulatory NHBC compliance to enable smooth project progression. You’ll work in a growing Northampton division as part of the Technical/Engineering team. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape infrastructure delivery in a regional context.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and coordinate technical engineering designs and drawings
• Assist with infrastructure, drainage, highway, and foundation design reviews
• Manage technical information flow between consultants, contractors, and the wider team
• Provide engineering support to site teams to resolve technical issues as they arise
• Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant regulations, standards, and NHBC requirements
• Support feasibility studies, land assessments, and planning submissions
• Maintain accurate records and ensure timely distribution of technical information

Key requirements

• Previous engineering experience within housebuilding, civil engineering, or construction
• Strong understanding of residential infrastructure design (roads, sewers, levels, drainage)
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering reports
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
• Proficiency with design and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD)
• Relevant industry qualifications (HNC, HND, Civil Engineering degree or similar)
